The Ultimate Fall Foliage Viewing Spots in Chester County, PA

Autumn is here once again and Chester County, Pennsylvania, is the perfect place to
ridley-creek-300x186witness the beautiful changing of the leaves this time of year. If you’re looking for the best spots to view the fall foliage, the following locations are gorgeous spots where you can immerse yourself in all Pennsylvania’s natural beauty.

Longwood Gardens – Kennett Square

Visit Longwood Gardens in Kennett Square to help them celebrate the season with Autumn’s Colors. Take in sights of yellow, orange, purple, and red that cover golden honey locusts and ginkgos, scarlet sweet gums, sourwoods, and ruby northern red oaks.

The 86-acre Meadow Garden features three miles of walking and hiking trails surrounded by colorful fields of wildflowers, the historic Webb Farmhouse, Galleries, and four learning pavilions.

Longwood Gardens’ impressive Chrysanthemum Festival brings visitors to the four-acre conservatory from October 24 to November 22, where colorful cascading mums can be found draped across all the walls.

French Creek State Park – Elverson

French Creek State Park located in Elverson in northern Chester County, contains 7,339 acres, two lakes, and 40 miles of trails. This is the perfect location for hikers, mountain bikers, and equestrians looking for some adventure while taking in the breathtaking views and colorful trees.

Hopewell and Scotts Run Lakes are well-stocked with fish and there are also two disc golf courses that are popular with visitors all year round. There are designated trails for cyclists and eight miles of trails for horseback riding.

If you’re looking to spend an extended amount of time admiring the fall foliage, ten furnished modern cabins are available for guests year round along both Hopewell and Scotts Run lakes, but be sure to make your reservations early.

Jenkins Arboretum – Devon

If you’re looking for something a little quainter, Jenkins Arboretum in Devon features a wooded path along the southeastern Pennsylvania hardwood forest with a beautiful pond. The paved walkways are ideal for strollers and runners, and they provide vistas of Valley Forge National Historical Park.

Along with the fall foliage, there are also plenty of native wildflowers and a planted rainbow of azaleas and rhododendrons to appreciate. More than 150 different species of rhododendrons and azaleas from all over the world bloom from March until October at the Jenkins Arboretum, so you’ll be able to enjoy more than just the changing leaves.

Northbrook Canoe Company – Chester

If your favorite method of fall foliage sightseeing is from a kayak, canoe, or inner tube, then the Northbrook Canoe Company in Chester is the place for you. Its season runs through the end of October, giving you the perfect opportunity to float along the calm Brandywine River and take in the colorful countryside.

Northbrook offers seven canoe and kayaking trips of different lengths that last between one and six hours. Tubing is also offered for shorter periods of time. If you’d like to make a day of it, there are also picnic areas and grilled food available on site.

Chester County is full of beautiful parks and winding trails surrounded by the changing leaves. But, be sure to take advantage of these gorgeous locations and visit before winter rolls around.
