The spine is a critical part of the body and important to all daily activities. The spinal cord carries signals from the brain to other parts of the body. Minor spine problems can cause persistent back pain, while major spinal cord injuries have much more serious implications.
Spinal cord injuries are considered medical emergencies. Immediate care is critical to long-term successful treatment of the injury. If your spine is injured, it's important that you get the care you need. While emergency doctors usually start your treatment, you will need ongoing care to ensure lifelong spinal health. This type of delicate therapy is something you want performed by an experienced specialist.
Whether you're dealing with chronic spine pain or the aftermath of a sports injury, you want to have a spine doctor on your side who can help you manage the pain, repair the damage, and regain a complete and comfortable range of motion.
There are many ways to deal with spine problems. Incomplete spinal cord injuries do not disrupt the brain's signals and allow you to retain movement and sensation. Complete spinal cord injuries cause paralysis below the point of injury. Treatments for these types of injuries may include traction, braces, or spinal surgery. Medication can help manage the pain, and long-term physical therapy may help you regain movement where it was lost.
If you're dealing with an emergency spinal cord injury, we offer immediate treatment through our Orthopaedic Urgent Care Center so you don't have to wait to receive the attention you need.
At Premier Orthopaedic and Sports Medicine, we can connect you with excellent spine doctors to help you deal with any type of pain or injury.
