Little League Shoulder
Little League shoulder is an overuse injury affecting the growth plate at the top of the upper arm bone (humerus) in young throwers.
Symptoms
- Soreness or pain in the shoulder during or after throwing
- Decreased pitching speed, distance, or accuracy
- Tenderness when pressing on the upper arm bone
Causes
Repetitive stress from high-velocity throwing places excessive rotational force on the open growth plate, causing micro-fractures.
Risk Factors
- Frequent pitching without adequate rest
- Playing catcher as a secondary position
- Poor throwing mechanics
Diagnosis
Our specialists perform a comprehensive physical examination and use advanced imaging, such as X-rays, to evaluate growth plate widening or stress.
Treatment
Recovery primarily requires a period of relative rest from throwing (usually several weeks to months) combined with physical therapy to correct mechanics and strengthen the rotator cuff.
Whether you're dealing with a recent injury or years of chronic pain, our orthopaedic specialists create personalized treatment plans that reduce pain, restore movement, and help you live more comfortably.
